After reinstalling win98 then reupgrading to win xp (I was
missing components) I purchased a NIC card and wanted to
add this computer to my home network. I was following the
instructions to do so and found that the network adapter
part of the device manager is missing. I have tried many
of the solutions found generally on the web with no
success.

Help!

Hi. After removing cover and physically installing NIC card, on bootup, did XP indicate by popup message that it had found new hardware (or something to that affect)? If the card isn't showing in Device Mgr, I would suspect that a "good" seat didn't occur when you installed it. I would reopen the cover, remove, and reseat the card...making sure that it is properly and completely seated in the PCI slot. Regards

I would like to add that it takes a long time for XP to
install any new device, whether it be a NIC or a USB
device. So be patient. Don't use turn into a clickhappy
Mac user.
