network access denied when disk is shared

I've got Windows XP Home setup on a 3 computer network,
but there's a problem. Under sharing and security, I've
got drive C shared, and I have checked "Allow others to
change my files." Still, when I get on another one of
the network computers, most of the folders say "Access
Denied," even though I have sharing enabled. I can get
to the main part of the drive, but when I try to go
anywhere else on it it says "Access denied." I don't
have the time, or patience, to go through and
individually share every single folder on the disk. Why
isn't it letting me in when everything is shared?

I found networking and sharing less than easy in windows xp.
one of my favorite sentences was this one from the
microsoft knowledge base on simple file sharing for windows
xp professional.

"This article describes the different ways to configure
access to your files into distinct levels. The levels
defined in this article are not documented in the operating
system or Help files. The levels are described in this
article for purposes of reference and understanding."

if the information isn't documented in the operating system
or the help files, how do they expect you to find it!!

It sounds to me that you have shared the drive locally and
not for the network. the proceedure to share the drive is
as follows. open up my computer. right click the drive
you want to share. click on properties. click the sharing
tab. (all of this you probably did) next you need to share
the drive as a network drive and give it an appropriate
name to make it easier to identify. this should allow all
the network computers to access it. good luck.
