Please don't ask the same question twice in the same newsgroup in less than
24 hours.

That said, I know of no problems running IE and Netscape 7.1 on a Windows ME
machine. 7.1 has known memory leak issues on 9x and ME systems, and it is
advised that you switch to Mozilla or a Mozilla-based, non-Netscape browser
like Firebird. I believe the latest Firebird .8 version is coming out
Monday.

No. Netscape 7.1 is old and lousy though. Go for Mozilla 1.6 (or
Mozilla Firebird if you're feeling adventurous).

I've been using Firebird 0.7 as my default browser since its release and
I've found it to be very stable. It's not just for the adventurous anymore.

This guy asks if Netscape 7.1 will work with IE under Windows ME... No
offense to him, but I don't think that he should come anywhere near Firebird
until it hits 1.0.

Firebird is an awesome browser, but realistically it's not anywhere near ready
to be used by "common people".

What is the basis for this reasoning? I use Netscape 7.1 and Firebird side
by side, and Firebird works equally well. Anybody who can use Netscape can
use Firebird now.

Firebird still has the memory leak and still will not sort bookmarks, but
even Netscape didn't get that right until 7.1.

The memory leak seems to be universal with Mozilla based browsers, but it's
a small price to pay for the inherent security of them.

Firebird is highly configurable using extensions and themes.

I hope not. I am running WinME, and have had IE 6, Netscape 4.7 Netscape
7.1, CrazyBrowser and sometimes have them all open at once

Yeah, it works great until you stumble upon a regression.

One small look in the Mozillazine forums says you are quite wrong. Firebird
nightlies are occasionally filled with huge gotchas that Joe AOL should not
(read: absolutely can not) deal with. The milestones are only somewhat
stabler.

"Why won't Flash work?", "Where are my scrollbars?", "Why doesn't this
and that work when I do this?", etc. There are /lots/ of issues that might
make someone less computer-savy trip and hurt themselves.

Are you also of the believe that Linux is ready for the desktop?

Why are you trying to sell Firebird to me? I /know/ that it's a great browser.
I said as much in the post you quoted.
