Hello.

Netscape 8 Beta is now available for download.
Get it here: http://browser.netscape.com/nsb/download/default.jsp

Regards.

NOTE the this info which I posted earlier.

"There are reports Netscape 8 is going to be made available to the
general public this morning (March 3rd). There are also many reports
from those who have tried the betas that this thing is _very_ buggy and
should not be touched as yet. The tester's feeling is that Netscape 8
is NOT really ready.

If you want to try it BE CAREFUL."

Do NOT complain IF IT has MANY problems.

There's some connection between NS and Mozilla, what would Netscape 8
be in Firefox (what release I mean)?

Actually, Netscape is based on the Mozilla Suite. I THINK (don't quote me)
that Netscape 7.2 is based on Mozilla 1.7. I'd assume that NS 8 is as well.

Netscape 8 is a hurriedly rushed out beta to fix the IDN spoofing exploit.
I like Netscape, but Firefox has become much more user friendly now.

This *&^%$ continual vulnerability thing really irks me. I LOVED Netscape
7.1 and would have used it forever, but it has more holes now than Swiss
cheese. The best thing about Firefox is that it is quickly fixed, and they
have gotten much better at maintaining useability across versions. Used to
be that when another point-something came out, it would break all your
extensions. That's not true any more.

For up to date Netscape news, there's no better place than sillydog.org.

NS 8 is based on Firefox, actually.

More specifically, on Firefox 1.0. That means that it has a number
of vulnerabilities that have been fixed in the currently available
Firefox 1.0.1.

Thanks, but no thanks :-)

Then they gave up on having it be a browser/mail/news client? That would be
a complete reversal in direction for Netscape.

Exactly. Firefox is fixed before Netscape can even get the wheels in
motion. They get NS 8 out and it's based on a version of FF with a hole
that's already been fixed.

Q: Why do Netscape folks all wear sandals?
A: To make it easier to shoot themselves in the foot.
