To cut a long story short, I have tried every fix known to man (or
woman) in the netgear forums to get this piece of crap working and
failed miserably, although I don't think I'm the only one. Does
anyone know if it is possible to set this up straight on to the
Ethernet port via RJ45 and bypass the router completely ? and have the
configuration details for doing it.

it might help if you provided some basic details about how
this device achieves connectivity. For example, a brief
search indicates it is not accessed via IP # but rather
software is installed on all clients. Yuck! Who wants to
load up software just to access NAS? I wouldn't use it for
free but maybe your needs are different?

It should indeed be possible to attach it directly to the PC
rather than a router. If you had tried this and still no
success, I'd suspect something else, the original problem
still persists.

IMO, unless you wanted this type of device (access method),
it is a poor solution and if you can get a refund that would
be prudent.

Uhm...ya.

Don't plug anything into the WAN port.

Yes, APIPA does work on the SC101. Did you try it? Did it work? The box
needs to connect to a DHCP server and does not care if it comes from
the router, OS or third party service.

Let me know if you still need help. I have a lot of experience with
this product during it's beta testing era.

I hadn't even heard of APIPA until your reply, I know know what it
stands for.. lol

I did try using the lan ip setting of the router to reserve an address
for the 101, as someone suggested i might work, it didn't. A
previous poster said dont connect anything to the WAN, but not sure
where he was coming from with that.

My set up is a straight USB wireless connector to the Wireless Router,
which the SC 101 plugs into. OS is XP Pro, plenty of memory and no
card conflicts, stable machine I have no problem with.

Is there a guide anywhere to setting up the APIPA for XP to give that
a try ?? I'll just slap a 20 gig in there for a play about
