I have installed the router and plugged in 3 pcs but the pcs tell me that
the cable is not plugged in. My lan cards work fine because I tested a
direct-link connection that worked, and the cables are new (I have 3
cables). All the needed protocols are installed and this morning I managed
to make one pc connect to the router (which is connected to internet),
though now I can't make it work again. Also, it seems that sometimes the pcs
do detect the cable and connect to the lan, sometimes not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a quick check on the cables. If all the ends are clear, you should be
able to see the colours of the wires. In a standard cable, looking down on
the side of the connector without the catch, with the cable coming towards
me and reading left to right, the colours start white/orange, orange/white,
white/green, blue/white..... for both connectors. For a cross-over cable the
colours will be different in one of the connectors to the other.
(White/orange means that the cable is white with an orange stripe,
Orange/white means it is Orange with a white stripe. Sometimes the thin
stripes are almost invisible).
You will need to check if you should be using a cross-over or straight
through cable from a network card to the router. Using the wrong one may
result in a computer saying that the cable is not plugged in.
