Hi all, I need some help... I have done a search but nothing has come up.

I have a 2 Mb adsl connection and am having problems getitng the router
config to surf the net..

We have a BT managed Router which works fine and 7 IP address's, If i
connect a laptop to the router and give it one of our fixed IP address's it
can surf fine, using the BT router as the default gateway.

Now I have a FR328s Netgear Firewall/router and it will not allow me to surf
through it,

Here;s what ive done so far, I have set the firewall as a Fixed IP different
from the BT router, and connected the wan port to the BT router, I have
given the firewall the default gateway of the BT router and the subnet mask
is the same as the BT router.

I then set the firewall's lan side IP range as fixed 10.0.0.245 and a subnet
of 255.255.255.0 now when I set a client machine running win2000/xp to our
local ip range and subnet and a default gateway of the firewall I cannot
surf, or see the internet.

I have set the firewall's DNS using the 2 fixed DNS servers the ISP gave me,
I have also tried setting a DMZ from the firewall to my client pc and still
it will not surf.

I know this is either a dns issure or a default gateway, but can anyone see
where I have gone wrong????

The ISP can ping the router <BT> and can ping the firewall <netgear> both on
seperate IP address's and can ping the laptop when connected direct to the
BT router

I have tried using a default gateway of the firewall and of the router and
still nothing,

I do not have a proxy server or have the proxy settings clicked in IE 6..

What can it beeeee..

Cheers

Ryan

Ronny,

Please do a tracert to the Netgear router from your WIN machine and see if
it can see it and if it can, then please do a tracert to the BT router and
see if you can reach it.

For some reason I cannot ping the BT router from the Netgear Firewall, after
a convo with the guys from netgear, it looks like the firewall will not see
the BT router, but people can connect in fine.

Demon are blocking icmp packets at the moment, so I cant ping nothing, or
connect to anything, but they can.

I will try another modem on monday.

Cheers
