I keep on getting a message "cannot convert name to
TCP/IP address". When I contacted laplink they informend
me I had to install NetBIOS. I am using XP Pro. How do I
go about installing this?

Thank you.

You can't install or un-install NetBIOS in Windows XP. Make sure that
NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the local area network connection and click Properties.
3. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
4. Click Advanced.
5. Click WINS.
6. Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.

I have 3 computers on a home network: Computer A(W2K
server), Computer B(XP Pro), Computer C(XP Pro). Computers
A & C could see each other but not computer B until I
installed NWLink protocol IPX/SPX/NetBIOS on all 3. Now
all 3 PCs work correctly. Is that not running NetBIOS on
XP? And it works with NetBIOS at either "Default"
or "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" on the WINS Tab.

Windows networking uses the NetBIOS applications programming interface
for file and printer sharing. NetBIOS can run on any of the network
protocols: TCP/IP, IPX/SPX/NetBIOS, or NetBEUI.

If the network only worked after adding IPX/SPX/NetBIOS, something is
wrong with its TCP/IP configuration. TCP/IP, by itself, is
sufficient, and no other protocols should be needed. The usual
problems with TCP/IP are firewall programs and not enabling NetBIOS
over TCP/IP.
