NETBIOS settings

Hi

I have a problem with my email program. I am using Pegasus
Mail V4.11 on a WinXP (SP1) machine with plenty of RAM and
GB's of free space. I experience long delays opening and
forwarding messages.

I have contacted technical support who say that I need to
tweak my NETBIOS settings. Apparently, it has something to
do with the interaction between my machine and the server
(running Win2k Server with Small Business Server 2k), on
which the mail is stored - according to Technical Support
Pegasus does 'piecemeal' writes and it is this that is
causing the slowdown of the program.

I have tried various NETBIOS settings without success. It
was recommended that I also search Microsoft's site for a
possible solution but can find nothing on piecemeal writes-
and-NETBIOS settings.

When using Pegasus on a Win98 machine, the program zooms
along without a hitch.

Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try to speed
the program up?

Hi Jazz, thanks for answering. I have tried to use this
setting without success.

The problem does not lie with downloading or sending
messages, but with managing mail once it has been
downloaded and is stored on our file server. For example,
when mail is moved, forwarded between clients (i.e. mail
is moved by Pegasus from one client folder to another
client folder on the same file server), it takes many
seconds to do this. As I said, according to Pegasus Mail
technical support, it is the NETBIOS settings that need to
be tweaked to speed up the program, but they did not
specify which settings, and I have tried all settings to
no avail.

you might want to go into the advanced tab of the network conection and
enable notbios over tcp/ip.

it is very strang that a mail program would need to use netbios at all.
generally tcp/ip is the prefered protocal for mail (at least on modern
systems.) unless it has some virtual comunications serving package built
inot it. i never used the package before so i wouln't know. try using
outlook to get the mail and see if it has the same
slowness.

Does the ipconfig/all from the clients show that everything is pointing to
the server-IP? How many nics in the server?
You could also put the XP-nics on anything but autosense.
Have a look at www.smallbizserver.net for some more issues with XP and the
microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000 newsgroup.
