I'm using a dial-up connection to connect.
On this connection I would like to connect myself to some
drives, i.e. use 'net use ...'. However this results in
System Error 1231.
As far as I can figure out this error basically means that
I do not have the right protocols enabled on my connection.
On this specific connection I have enabled TCP/IP protocol
and 'Client for Microsoft networks'. So far, so good.
However "ipconfig /all" reveals that 'NetBIOS over tcpip'
is disabled which is what I consider to be the problem.
I have therefore tried to find a way to enable this so far
with no luck. The Internet is full of descriptions on how
to do this but they all apply to LAN connections, not to
modem or VPN connections. On my WINS tab I do *not* see
the checkboxes that apply to netbios over tcpip. They are
simply not there. If I try - just for testing - to
configure a new LAN connection I do then see these
checkboxes. However for modem and VPN connections I do not
see them. :-(
Any ideas ?
Thanks.
OS info: My pc is W2K. I believe the share I'm trying to
connect to is on a NT server.
