Hello,

On a Domain Controller, in the TCP/IP properties of the network adapter,
will disabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP cause any problems?

Thanks,
Scallica

NetBIOS over TCP/IP is required for browsing. And depending on which DC is
set as the master browser I imagine you'd have problems if you disabled it
on that server. Corrections welcome.

Personally, I like browsing, so I never disable it.

Also if you have downlevel clients or older applications that are NetBIOS
dependent you probably still want to run NetBIOS.

Or possibly install the AD client from www.microsoft.com/downloads onto all
downlevel clients?

I beleive that AD clent, while good to use and includes site awareness and
AD search, does not eliminate need for netbios in downlevel clients to
locate domain controller or resources. I suppose a lmhosts file may be an
answer. --- Steve
