Hey, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on
how I could see NetBIOS names over a VPN, or more
specifically how to configure two netopia r910 routers so
I can see NetBIOS names over a VPN. Although any
information on this subject is appreciated. Thanks. Oh
yeah, at either end there are Windows 2000 Professional
Service Pack 4 boxes connected. Thanks again.

.

To see netbios names you must open ports 138 and 139, and
if you use wins port 137 also. You must stay sure that
enable netbios on tcp/ip is enabled (wins tab in TCP/IP)

Greetx.

Also you will need to set up a Wins server on the LAN if you don't already
have one.

Ive got a WINS server on one end that looks like its working fine cause I can ping computers on the other side of the wan, but I cant see them if I go into my network places. This is the same situation for the otherside also. All proper ports are open.

How about why it wouldent work. Is there drawbacks or problems that can occur while using NetBIOS over a VPN?
