NetBIOS disable????

What would happen if you disable NetBIOS on Windows 2000 Server Active
Directory Domain Conroller? Basically, is it required for AD or can I turn
it off?

It would no longer appear the wins database which would cause a lot of problems
with W98/ME NT4.0 computers if they are being used. Computers/applications that
rely on netbios name resolution would fail. Your browse/list My Network Places
probably would fail since the DC pdc fsmo is the domain master browser, or at
the very least those computers would not appear in the browse list. Any trusts
with downlevel/NT4.0 domains will fail.It should not even be considered unless
the network is all W2K/Windows 2003/XP Pro and even then it should be
implemented on a test network first. --- Steve
