Is NETBEUI necessary for "browsing" on mixed networks ?
I have a small network with win2K (Pro and Server) systems as
well as win98 systems. DHCP from a SOHO router. All systems are
in a workgroup, no domains. The win2K systems could not see the
win98 systems in Network Neighborhood until I installed NETBEUI on
the 2K systems (It was on the '98 systems already). I could ping
from any system to any other, and the '98 systems could see the 2K
system in Net. Neighborhood, but the 2K systems could not see the
'98's w/o NETBEUI.
Is NETBEUI necessary for browsing across these systems ? I was under
the impression that I could remove NETBEUI and just browse via
IP, but it does not seem to be working. I'd like to get it off the
network if possible.
Thanks,
