I have a three user peer to peer network, All have
unfettered access to the internet. All require access to
one share on a windows 98 box. The share has full access
no password, workgroup is WPTR, Two machines can see each
other, one is 98 the other is xp home, third machine xp
home identical config to first xp machine, cannot see
either machine, I am confused, there is no central DNS
Server to assist so I have a host file, still no help, I
have loaded Netbeui, One machine cannot see the
others?????

Please help anyone....

DNS plays no part in File and Printer Sharing on a Windows 98/XP
network. The Hosts file is used with TCP/IP, not with NetBEUI, but it
shouldn't be necessary.

The key to Windows networking is to use the same, single protocol for
File and Printer Sharing on all computers.

If you choose to use TCP/IP for sharing, remove NetBEUI from all
computers.

If you choose to use NetBEUI for sharing, install it on all computers
and un-bind sharing from TCP/IP on all computers.

I've written a web page with details:
