HI,

I am running WP Pro with SP2 and all updates applicable installed. A couple of
days ago I installed the KB829109 .NET Framework v2 update via Microsoft Update
which appeared to go well.

However when I ran Norton SystemWorks 2004 one button check it reported 10
errors during the Program Integrity Scan where the following files
Applaunch.exe
Aspnet_regiis.exe
Aspnet_state.exe
Aspnet_wp.exe
csc.exe
cvtres.exe
ilasm.exe
mscorsvw.exe
ngen.exe
vbc.exe
all located in c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\
could not find the file msvcr80.dll.

I scanned the drive and found a copy of the file in
c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt\..........directory. This copy is
612KB and is dated 23/9/05 at 7:29AM.

The PC still seems to run OK - at least no obvious problem so far.

Does anyone know of a fix?

Is it possible that your Norton product is incorrect? As you mention that
your PC seems to be fine, I'd suggest that Norton Systemworks is incorrectly
reporting a non-problem.
You may wish to report the situation to Symantec tech support and see what
they have to say about it.

I contacted Microsoft support and the upshot was that .NET Framework was not
needed on my PC and the best solution was to remove it using add/remove
programs. NSW 2004 finds Program Integrity Scan no errors after removal.

I have also hidden the .NET Framework 2.0 update on Microsoft Update so that it
is not offered to me again.

FYI I was given a reference to this problem by the Microsoft guy:-

Hi Alfred,

I missed that message. I only joined this Newsgroup on the 13th after the
error occurred.

I found the DLL file in the same directory as NewMan did but wasn't sure whether
it was the correct version since this directly looked to me to be one of those
used to park old versions of files after an update. I also wasn't sure if the
problem was with NSW or XP.

I contacted Microsoft support and the solution for me was to un-install .NET
Framework 2.0. NSW no longer reports an error after that was done.

Cheers . . . JC

What about the solution I used, which was also reported in this
OK here is how I solved the problem

The 10 problems norton reports all related to the file:

msvcr80.dll

I searched for that file and found it on my system in this
sub-directory:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_0de06acd

I then copied the file to this sub-directory:

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727

Norton no longer reports any problems.
