NET USE LPT1 Question

We have an old dos program that we use and have been running/printing fine
on our 98 machines. We have about 8 printers that they print to using the
"net use lpt1 \\machine\printer /yes" I'm migrating those users to 2000(I
know we are way behind) and when we try and print from this on a 2k machine
it always prints to the first printer that was setup with net use command no
matter which printer you choose. So if the user logins in and prints once
to printer "HP4" then tries to print to "8000" it still goes to the "HP4"
though you chose the "8000" If you go back onto a 98 machine you can print
to whichever and works fine. How can I release this port or something to
let it print to different printers in one session. I've tried "net use lpt1
//.... /persistent:no" with no results. The only way I can make it work is
going to command prompt and using net use lpt1 /delete but of course I can't
do that every time and I can't use and external dos printing application.
Any suggestions
