I have recently moved my production Oracle Database to a new SAN. The Backup
server is also new and is connected to the San. Before the move, I was using
ArcServe on the Oracle box to perform backups and used net stop/start
commands through a batch file to stop / start Oracle.

Now, I need to automate the process of utilizing snapshots, I need to be
able to stop/start Oracle through scripts.

My issue is that I am not getting the right combination to execute this
unless I"m on the actual Oracle box (NT 4.0, Sp6). I've expeimented with
executing Winat, trying to map the drive, etc).

Help, I would really like to start reaping the benefits of the new setup.
Instead I find myself burning the midnight oil to manually stop/start the
services.

Why don;t you create a batch file with the commands "net stop/net start" in
it and then use task scheduler to schedule when you want this to run?
