I was having an install failure of the update associated with KB953297, getting:
"Initializing installation... done!
Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows
2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server
2008 R2 (KB953297) (update 1 of 1)... "
It sits there for a few seconds, then tells me that the install failed. I was
directed to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 for the solution.
I think I've really screwed up.
When I rebooted, 1, 2 & 3 were gone, but then I saw 3.5. I tried to uninstall it, but
I think I probably nuked it's install files with the Install Cleanup tool earlier, so
it won't either install or un-install.
I can re-install 1 and 1.1, but 2 fails, telling me that it can't install because of
a previous install (but it doesn't identify it).
I sent an email to MS support and got the automated reply that a support person would
contact me within 24 hours. That was a couple of days ago, and after two follow-up to
MS, still no help.
I'm desperately looking for a way to correct this, and Google isn't helping a lot.
