Hi

How do .net reporting tools (including in vs2005) compare to reporting in ms
access? I am moving over from access and hoping that all my reporting needs
will be fulfilled.

Thanks

Regards

If you have a MS/SQL Server (Server) edition license, a SQL Reporting Tool
is included in the CD for you. It has two components: Server and Client.
This tool is very nice and does work with VS.Net 2k3 and future VS.Net
versions.

In addition to the SQL reporting tool mentioned by WJ, you have Crystal
Reports.

I have noticed there is also Report Designer in vs 2005. So how does Crystal
Reports, vs 2005 Report Designer and sql server 2005 reporting tools compare
with access reports?

Thanks

Report Designer is Crystal.
My *opinion* is that Crystal is as good or better than Access reporting, but
has a steeper learning curve.
Hopefully, somebody else will jump in with a comparison of Access and SQL
reporting.

SQL Server Reporting Services will be in ALL SKUs of SQL Server 2005
including the Express edition. See
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/2005/productinfo/rsfeatures.mspx. With some
experience with SSRS, I can safely say that it's a Crystal killer. It's far
easier to use and it's totally integrated with Visual Studio. It's also
available today if you have a Standard Edition SQL Server 2000. The 2005
SKUs of Visual Studio will have a RDL reporting tool that uses the same
technology, but does not require a central Reporting Services Server at all.
