.Net newsgroups backed up at dotnetgroups.com

All important .Net Newsgroups are being backed up online at
www.dotnetboards.com.
You'll be able to find all your posts and answers to them, even if
they are long time gone from newsgroup servers, which is pretty good
idea I think.
Anyways, I just though it's good to have it in our favourites.

Why another archive?

I think it's great and I don't know any other backup, so I find this
one just perfect.
Can you post links to other backups? I would like to have all in case
one goes down.

I am not sure if this is a good idea. I hate it that, when typing my
name into, for example, Google's /Web/ Search, the neesgroup posts are
found.
Anyways, I just though it's good to have it in our favourites.

It's good if it doesn't flood web searches with the posts.

Apparently our emails are stript down... look at it...
anyways, who would possibly search for your name?
Aren't you a little bit paranoid?
For us to have a backup and for other people around who are looking
for old problems which were already solved, I think for this purpose
it makes some sense.

I have seen it. The "board" looks good.

Someone who wants to find something about me?!

I don't think so. It's not the problem that my name is found, it's a
problem that news messages (which were posted in the context of
newsgroups) are spread around the web. I would suggest the
authors/maintainers to insert certain tags into the HTML files/on the
server to tell web search robots not to index the messages by their
content.

I prefer <http://groups.google.com>.

You might be right, but using their forum, I find it very easy to
navigate only through topics with .net content.
Google has thousands of topics and newsgroups... very hard to get
around, don't you think?
The way I see it, www.dotnetboards.com has it all in one place, simple
for beginner to get around.
Website and forums order looks good to me as well.

Hi Herfried,

That is the main reason that I do not use my last name in this newsgroup.

All ligthert sites will be spoiled.

That's a good idea, but I want to use my full name in the newsgroups.

The main problem is, that web archives of news messages mix up the
"usenet" (even if MSFT Public Newsgroups are not part of the usenet) and
the "web".
All ligthert sites will be spoiled.

I include the word "dotnet" in my Google Grpups Searches, this will
return the best results.

I don't think so. But I agree, it takes some time to get good results,
but with experience in searching you will find results easily and in
short time.

It looks well and I think it's "interesting" to bring the world of news
and web together. Nevertheless, IMO there are some unsolved problems.

Hi Herfried,

With "Wagner" there is a little bit less change that you are in top than
with "Ligthert"

:-)

"Wagner" is a very common name in German language countries.

well, everyone has different taste :)

Why do you only reply to your own post and not to the messages written
by others?

I wish I could take every single message posted in the last week and a half
and destroy it.......it never happened.

I actually have to agree with Wagner on this one.

You're just jealous that the voices in his head won't talk to /you/...

If you enter my name into Google's Search, you will know why I hate
it too...
