I'm trying to install .NET Framwork 1.1 on a Windows XP home computer.
The computer has all the latest service packs and security
fixes.
I downloaded a file from microsofts homepage
called "dotnetfx.exe" but when i try to install it I
receive a prompt saying "dotnetfx.exe is not a valid Win32 application"
I then tried to download it and install it from the
Windows update site but the install failes there as well.
Anybody can help me please?
Thanks for your input.

I just downloaded the redistributable and checked it. Works fine here, so
the first possibility is that your download is corrupt. Another possibility
is the presence of a virus, trojan or malware of some sort on your computer.
You said you have the latest OS updates, but are you sure your system is
clean?
When you attempted to install .NET Framework 1.1 via Windows Update, exactly
what happened? If there was an error message or other information provided
related to the failure, please quote it here so others can offer pertinent
suggestions.

Thanks for your help.
I am quite sure my system is clean.
I do have already attemped to install .NET Framework 1.1 via Windows Update
and it had failled before instalation and imediatly after the download of the
file...

With no error message?
It sounds more and more as if the downloads are corrupted. Are you able to
download other files and work with them? You may want to check out your PC
by downloading some other piece of software and trying to install it. If
that attempt fails, you can be sure it's your PC that's the culprit.
