Windows XP Service Pack 2 ISO image on MSDN Universal subscription download has
..NET Framework 1.1 included and it displays as ".NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
1".

There are no release notes (only EULA.TXT), and Microsoft download site still
shows Technical Preview as the most recent. There's also no mention of any kind
in MSDN Universal download notes.

After installation many assemblies have newer build number (1.1.4322.2032), and
trying to install Technical Preview results in the "... all installed components
are already newer ..." type of message.

Is it possible that Microsoft has quietly released Service Pack 1 for .NET
Framework 1.1?

Oh, and when you create slipstreamed version of the XP Install CD you get new
item in the autorun menu (under "perform additional tasks" there is now "Install
..NET Framework").

yes, AFAIK it is the real, final .NET 1.1 SP1.

Please check back:

The Technical Preview Program has ended
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/sptechpreview/default.aspx

"Coming soon! Get the .NET Framework Service Packs. Both .NET Framework 1.0 SP3
and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 will be available on the download center.
Check back here for the links."

*** No, nor did they release Windows XP Service Pack 2, SP2 RC2 contains the
TP of v1.1 SP1.
The final version of XP SP2 will include .NET v1.1 SP1.

Right, I knew it was released to manufacturing on 8/6, and would be
available for download on 8/9 but didn't pay to much attention to the date
the message was posted.
And to confirm OP's question, it's .NET v1.1 SP1 which is included with SP2.

When i insert Windows XP SP2 Slipstreamed CD, Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP screen comes up. I click on Perform additional tasks and then when i click on Install .NET Framework nothing happens. It should start the installation when i click on it but nothing happens.

So what could be the reason why its not installing from CD and how could i install .NET Framework from WinXP SP2 Slipstreamed CD?

Did you copy over dotnetfx directory to the CD?
