Is MS going to do anything about this rouge update. It will not install. I
have turned off auto update. How do I get rid of this thing?

Farbuncle,

Right click the update and select "Hide". You will not be prompted again to
download or install this update.

Have a nice day.

I have done that just so I don't have to look at it - but there has to be a
way to install it - or is it completely useless. You would think Microsoft
could get "something" right.

Well, there was something missing - including jwpack.dot in Word, so I gave
up as I was starting to have other problems. I totally did a compete
computer restore from a total backup. Now everything works just fine.
However, I have NOT reinstalled any of the Windows updates. I am afraid to
do so. Which ones are actually ok?

You do them manually. Each install should involve creating a new restore
point if successful, if you have restore points enabled and installing from
the Update center manually.

You should try to practice Safe Hex if at all possible as much as possible,
like installing those updates.

Ok installed them one by one and left the cumulative fix for IE7 until the
end. And that is the one that is screwing up my being able to delete my
cookies, browsing history, etc. If I go to Add/Remove programs, would it be
ok to delete it? Can't believe I have to keep it and have to use disk
cleanup each time to delete my browsing history. Is anyone else having the
same problem? Thanks for your help

If you're talking about IE, then no, you cannot remove it. What do you mean
by you cannot delete cookies and browsing history? Is it that you don't have
permissions or what?

I am fairly computer literate and, before I put in the new cumulative IE 7
update - I could clear my browsing history, cookies, etc. the normal way -
Tools - Internet Options - Delete - Delete all (I have Windows Vista
Ultimate). Now, when I try to do that, nothing happens. Everything just
stays and I have to use Disk Cleanup to clear my internet history.
