.NET Framework Deployed

Under what OS is .NET automatically installed? Our standard load at our site
is Windows XP Professional SP1 Workstation. Should .NET be present? Is it
an option to the installer to add or remove the framework from the
installation? Thanks for you help...waterBug
 
It's just Server 2003 that comes with the 1.1 framework as part of the OS,
already installed. I *think* it's on the XP SP2 CD but it's not
automatically installed, it's there for convenience.
 
What client OS includes the framework? Is it just expected that an
application deployment will have to manage the .net framework deployment too?
