Hello!

When I startup Win2k, as items are loading into the
taskbar, I see a series (about 20something) MSDOS windows
pop up, one after another, then disappear right away. The
line at the top of the windows that pop up read
c:\winnt\system32\net.exe. Some sort of error message
pops up (too fast) in the window after the system attempts
to run net.exe, which causes it to close immediately.

What is going on? How do I stop it? Please help!

Have you examined all the startup locations for something unwanted? A
startup manager (eg msconfig and others) can help. A-V scan. A-Trojan
scan. Some Trojans use "net.exe" as a file....

Is this a stand-alone system or connect to a domain?

Mark V.

Searched registry for "net.exe"... nothing referring to it.

Standalone, no domain.

Does msconfig work in win2k? Didn't think so, so haven't
checked it.

Please help, driving me nuts!

Appreciated.

You can dowload a msconfig.exe that works here:

Check the All Users and your account's Startup Folders too.
A-V, A-T ????
It sounds similar to a Trojan, but could be a bad batchfile or
something else.
