Hi, my daughter received a used computer for Christmas that has
Windows 2000 installed. It was purchased from an office. When she
turns on the computer she gets an error message that net.exe has
failed to start and sometimes she has to restart. She isn't on a
network at home. She does have cable Internet. How can she disable
net.exe? I will have to explain it to her over the phone so please
explain it for both of us, neither one is a network guru. Thank you
so much.

Sounds like a possible corrupt file Have her go to Start- Run and type the
following:

sfc /scannow

She will probably be prompted to insert her Windows 2000 disk at some point,
so she may want to have that handy.
