.NET CF SP1

The original release was smaller as it included only the Pocket PC runtimes.
By popular demand the redistributable cab files for all Pocket PC and
Windows CE.NET supported devices including the various Processor types are
now included. The actual runtime for a single device is roughly the same
size as the RTM version.

Is this what my clients are supposed to download?

This is fine for developers, but I think it's gonna scare away
some end users. They won't understand that the actual
runtime for their device might only be 2MB, not 14MB.

Also, it seems like a waste of space. Some guy with a single iPAQ
doesn't need all the different .NET runtimes installed on his desktop, does
he?

Could you provide both download options: single runtimes and bundled
runtimes?

What am I missing? Please explain.

Do I need to install SP1 for the .NET CF if I am running Visual Studio .NET
2003?

What version of the .Net CF is included with Visual Studio .NET 2003?

Thanks,

Joe

There is no service pack for VS to update the NETCF binaries to the latest
SP. You will have deploy the NETCF SP1 to your device then f5 deploy your
solution. If you use an emulator it will be running NETCF RTM

After I run the .MSI script to install SP1 to my desktop, where does the SP1
CAB file get placed such that I can copy it and install it on the emulator?

Thanks,

Joe

If you followed the link I provided, you would have downloaded a file called
NETCFSP1Dev.EXE
WHen you run it, it asks you for a target directory

Joe,

The original RTM version (no service packs yet) comes with Visual Studio
.NET 2003. Anything that you develop using the VS.NET '03 should work with
any Service pack Release for V1.0 .NET Compact Framework. As of right now,
there are no VS .NET Compact Framework updates for '03.
