I read in an MSDN help files (see link below) that there
is a Service Pack 2 available for the Compact Framework.
Does anyone know where this thing is or when it might be
coming out again. It apprears that it was released then
pulled. I did check out the Smart Devices Developer
Community and found nothing.

Microsoft, you still have a chance to call the thing SP3 - look at all the
confusion and it's not even released yet. I told you so! (I couldn't
resist saying that).

Amazing how flipping a single bit can solve sooooo much confusion...

Believe me, I brought this up in a recent conf. call with them. They made
some vague references to "time" as a reason for not calling it something
other than SP2, but the short of it is that it's still going to be called
SP2 (and we're going to have a grand time with support calls!).

I swear to god I wish MS put up a FAQ about this, or wished that people
would look at the last 2 days posts before asking this questions time and
again!! Sorry, had to vent.

I have followed up on the conference call reference that Chris Tacke mentioned, and here is the upshot.

We have updated the versions and dates on the newer SP2, but not the name. I don't believe we ever considered changing the actual name from SP2 to SP3, it actually didn't occur to us that keeping the SP2 name would cause confusion. The original SP2 was only up on the web for about 6 hours, and so we basically considered it as never having been "really" released widely.

Sorry if the absence of a name change has (or will) cause any confusion for you or your customers. By the time we realized this might be an issue for anybody, it was just too late in the game, and we thought a name change would cause yet more confusion.

This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Richard,

The download wasn't only available for 6 hours. In fact I was able to
download it just last Friday from the link on this page:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/mobility/downloads/

This link has worked on and off since the first SP2 release. It seems that
when the recall happened, someone forgot to remove the link from that page,
so it's far more widely distributed than you probably think.
