While native apps are generally still faster, I think you'll find that
Compact Framework apps run quite well on modern devices - and MUCH faster
than in the emulator. The performance improves even more with version 2, due
out in November. There's really no substitute for testing on actual devices
however.

Cheers - I thought that'd be the case, but it's always better to check.

Is there a newer version of the emulator available, I've got the standard
VS2K3 one - PPC2002.

Cheers,

Sam,

There are newer emulators that come with VS 2005 beta that actually emulate
the chip, but they are still much slower than the real devices.

Hi guys,

I'm wondering exactly what the performance of the Compact Framework is on
smart devices as compared to a native application. On the VS2003 emulator
all applications start relativley slowly; I'm wondering what performance is
like on, for example, a new device running Win2003 Mobile SE. I don't have a
PocketPC yet so I can't test it. Cheers.
