Net card problem

Hi, my problem is with changing of network cards on my home network. I have
an ADSL connection through an eTEK 4 port Modem/ Router to two computers,
one XP Home and one ME. Both have VIA RHINE iii network cards in them and
both can access the modem/router for internet access. I have tried to add
another computer running XP Pro to the system which has a Realtek 8139D net
card fitted but it can't see the modem/router. Swapping cards from the ME
machine and fitting it in the XP Pro machine allows it to access the
internet but causes the same problem in the ME machine, so giving me the
impression that I need another VIA card to make it work. I should add that
the XP Pro machine has an onboard net port which cannot see the modem/router
either, which is why I fitted the extra card. (Disabled the onboard port in
BIOS.)
Any help for a solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, Alan.

Is your router set up for MAC filtering?

That, I don't know. I must admit networking is still very much new to me.
Should I set it to on or off?

For what it is worth, I have the same Etec router on my home network, 2
machines have LNE100TX (Kingston) cards on WY2K/XP home and 3rd has an
Allied Telesyn AT2500 card on Win98 which I believe has the Realtek8139
chip, all work without any issue.
Bridge filtering is off and mac spoofing is disabled if that's any use!!!

Thanks, Rick and Carole for your replies to my problem. Bridge filtering is
off and I have now enabled Mac spoofing, but the problem with the cards
still exists. It doesn't matter how I swap the cards around, the machines
with the VIA cards work, the one with the Realtek won't. I need to get hold
of some more VIA cards to check it out. Any ideas where I can get some? ( I
am based in the UK.)

Thanks once again, Alan.

You could try
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3
Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=31095
this has a sis chipset and only costs £2.85. Read the reviews, it seems
highly rated.

I think this one may have the 8139 chip on it and still only £7.03 and its a
branded name.

Thanks Carole, I've ordered two of the sis cards, hopefully they will sort
out the problem.
