nero states 'your windows version is outdated'

hello,
i've got a problem with w2k sp4 and nero
after updating my oem 5.5.6.9 to the latest 5.5.x version
i get the following alert-message after starting nero:
''your windows version is outdated and nero cannot be run"
with my dvdwriter oem 6.x i get the same rightaway
nero support just states stuff like 'reinstall - clean with cleaner tool first...'
(which i already did) and in the end asked me to contact microsoft - yeah right!
any ideas?

ahaed really did a good job by coding this cleaner tool
there was no trace of nero in the registry after using it
