Hi Folks,

I'd like to hear some opinions regarding how advantageous it may be to
use Nero for video editing, recoding, and DVD authoring (after getting
it to work properly) instead of using the tools within Vista. Any
advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ken

Honestly, no. Vista's does find why spend big money again for something you
don't need to be overly complicated. I's already used Vista's and they are
fine. Save the money to get a DX 10 Video Card in a few months.

I don't have enough experience with either to do a good comparison, but if
it helps, I can tell you that Nero 7 Ultra Edition works just fine under
Vista Ultimate here.

I just installed the Nero7 demo.

It does far more than I need . . . will take me a months to figger out
what's worthwhile.

And I can't see ImageFile (NRG) which is what I really need.

Bill,

The three most important are probably:

Vision - for video editing and DVD authoring
Recode - for converting DVD Video to MPG video
Express - the burning wizard, which runs Burning ROM

Do yourself a favor and dont even think of installing Nero. Get Easy
Media Creator from Roxio.

This is just my personal opinion of course. But Nero has always been
a royal pain in the you know what for me.

Nero thinks it should be the only burning program on your system.
Install another burning program and Nero will bitch, and most of the
time quit working.

With Easy Media Creator, I have tested several different burning
programs at the same time. Not once did Easy media creator balk when I
installed another burning program. It continued to work just fine.

My opinion is just the opposite, I highly recommend Nero, and wouldn't use
Roxio if it was the last mastering program on the planet.

And I've had both on my XP machine and neither complains about the
other .....

Many people I know prefer Nero and find it more reliable and I tend to
use it more than Roxio but I liked Roxio's simple disk copy although
Nero have a "front end" now too.

Thats really interesting. I would love to use Nero if I could get it
to play well with other programs. (After all I paid a chunk of
change for it) But everytime I install some other burning program
(doesn't matter which one) Nero will balk and quit working. (This is
on XP, have not even attempted to try it on Visat)

Easy Media Creator on the other hand just works no matter what on my
system.

I had a bad experience with Nero 7 Ultra on Vista. Worked with it and
on it for a good while before uninstalling. Interestingly Roxio Easy CD
Creator Version 6.0 works fine. Even detects and uses a SATA based
Optical burner.

I really think Nero has had its day. It is no longer the clean simple
alternative.

I'm about to uninstall the 7 Demo

Roxio has caugt up
