I am having a problem all of a sudden with my pc being closed down part way
through the encoding process on nero. I have never had this before, now every
time i try, it happens. I have replaced nero 6 with the free trial of nero 7
but the samr happens. I have run my anti virus and spyware programmes and
found nothing. I have deleted unwanted programmes etc and cleaned up in
general yet still none the wiser. Can anyone advise please?

If you used Nero 6 as you say without a problem, why did you not at the
first sign of trouble, try a system restore to an earlier date, or did you
try that..?

Also, was Nero 6 ever updated..?
Was Nero 6 bundled with the optical drive or was it the full retail version
you bought separately..?

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a faulty optical drive, they seem to
pop their clogs with monotonous regularity. Sometimes the faulty drive can
even interfere with HD access or make the computer crash/freeze.

You could also try CD Burner XP, or Astonsoft's DeepBurner, both are free
and might help you decide if the problem is with Nero or elsewhere.

Didnt think it was going to be a continuous problem, thats why i havent until
now considered system restore.
Yes nero 6 was updated and it was bundled.
Thanks,
Keith

CD Burner wouldnt recognise i had a dvd in the drive and deepburner will not
accept AVI files
Thanks

If you are using other burning apps as well as Nero you may have a problem
in the optical drives upper and lower filters..?
Could be a conflict with Deepburner & Nero, etc..?
Bundled software is usually locked to the original optical drive it came
with, if you are using Nero Express on another optical drive it might see
the drive but won't complete the burn without errors.. If you use the Nero
burning rom app, select the other drive and you will see that it is not
selectable..

Might check the Upper & Lower filters for the optical drives..? The easiest
way to check without going into the registry, would be to go to Device
Manager, open DVD/CD-ROM drives, right click one of your optical drives,
select properties from the menu, Details tab, you should see "Device
Instance Id" and a drop down arrow (v), click it, move the mouse pointer
down the list to highlight Device Upper filters and click it, do the same
for the Device Lower filters, Class Upper & Lower filters as well to see and
take note of their contents.. Also, there should be just 4 MS signed drivers
in the Drivers tab, driver details button, driver files details window, may
want to check, your call..

MS signed drivers: cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, storprop.dll

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm
See any other drivers in there..? If you need to clear the U&L filters,
might use the above link, your call..?
If you decide to clear the filters you will need to reinstall/repair your
Nero 6 and it's updates..
