Hi all,
I have following observations (and some problems) while using Windows
MovieMaker and Nero Express 3 for making DVDs out of my MiniDV
handycam. Please give me your suggestions, any suggestions are most
welcome:
Earlier, I used WMM for capturing, making movie (adding text, effects
etc), and then saving the movie to hard disk (as I realized that WMM
doesn't have a capability of writing DVDs). I then used Nero to burn
this finished movie onto the DVD. The quality of DVD played back on
the DVD player and watched on TV was not very encouraging,
particularly when there is a moving scene (i.e. the camera was moving
while shooting). Even though the speed of movement of camera was not
high, the moving scene displayed on TV was blurred (having tails/
ghost).
I then got a newer version of Nero (NeroExpress3), using which I can
now Capture and add effects as well. The movie made in this way (fully
using Nero, no WMM involved) and written on DVD and watched on TV is
much better quality, and above problem doesn't exist. So, my conlusion
(on why the above problem exists in the first case) is that either the
WMM doesn't do the job of converting the captured video to finished
movie very well (I don't exactly know what sub-processes are involved
in doing this job: transcoding etc?, as I am not an expert), or
because of use of two different softwares (Nero and WMM) in the
process of capturing and making DVD, loss of quality takes place.
Are there any suggestions on this?
Now, though using only Nero to capture and write DVD solves the
problem, there are other issues: some very important (to me at least)
features of WMM are seemingly not available in Nero, such as:
(1) WMM has effects like speed-up or speed-down where one can apply
these effects to any clip in the timeline to increase or decrease the
speed. This effect I could not find in Nero (did I miss it?). If
anyone knows about it, please let me know.
(2) The original time and date of the clip (the time and date when it
was recorded in the Handycam) is visible in the WMM if one hovers the
mouse over a clip in the timeline (a feature which I find very
useful), whereas this feature I couldn't find in Nero. Again, if I
have missed it, please let me know.
(3) I use the external DVD writer connected to my PC via USB, does
this deteriorate the quality of the process in any way (as compared to
when the DVD writer is internal).
So, on one hand, I find making movie using WMM more user friendly and
with more features available, but can't write DVD using WMM, and have
to use Nero for this - but the resulting quality of DVD is not very
good. On the other hand, if I use Nero only, I lose some good features
of WMM in the movie making process. Please give your comments.
Thankyou
