Using Nero 7 BackItUp program. First item in log says Fullbackup operation
started. Next item says NeroBackItUp cannot lock the selected
partition/hard disk because it is locked by another program. In this case
some of your data will not be backed up. Do you want to continue? After
clicking OK the backup program continues normally. What exactly does this
mean? How can I tell what other program is locking the selected partition.

dont mean to sound funny but i would have thought it would be best to contact
AHEAD directly or try and find a NERO forum....

That means it's not able to back up some of the system files
because they are open and probably are in a state of change as
you are running the backup program. It's pretty much Standard
Operating Procedure for many backup programs that arent' designed
to handle the sytem files.
If Nero has a feature to use "Shadow Copy", that should let
you back them up. Shadow Copy takes a sort of snapshot of the
in-use system files at the time of backup and uses those in the
backup. NTBackup, BTW, allows, and I think defaults to, using
Shadow Copy. It's best to use window's own backup program for
the system drive.
Nero and programs like it are actually designed for data
backup, not system backups. But, it may have a Shadow Copy
feature; worth checking on.

Thanks for your reply. Nero 7 does have a Show Copy feature and it does
let me back up system-files. Before your reply I did not know what Shadow
Copy meant. You have answered two questions for me. Thanks again. You
have a nice day.
