Does this sound right?:

The negative contains more "info" (7-9 stops) than my monitor can display,
but my Monitor shows me more than it's possible to print on the paper. Or do
I have it all wrong?

It's possible to obtain 12 stop from print film and your monitor should
display them all. If not, use a step wedge and calibrate it.

OK 12 stops with negative film....to acually see details in the highlights
or shadows I have to play around with the brightness (gamma) in my photo
editing software right?

My monitor was recently calibrated with an OptiCAL. My question is, does my
monitor show me everything that is recorded on the negative or am I always
just seeing a range of information. How much? Or what range? Then, how much
can I reasonable expect to see on a print out. Thx.
