negative dates

I'm using a simple formula to calculate the days from a start date
"=c21-today()"

I cannot reverse the formula to get a negative number.

Any tips on how to get this number to show up as "-nnn"

thanks.

I formatted the cell to number format and got a negative number. As you
probably know all dates in Excel are internally stored as numbers.
