Hi,

I've posted this question before, but no replies in 10 days. I'm hoping
someone
will reply this time.

How can I enable the fax wizard to recall the last name/number dialed when
it is launched?

This was the default behavior in Win2000 Shared Fax, from which WinXP Fax is
derived.

I verified that the wizard does record this information to the registry, but
it doesn't use it when you run the Wizard again.

I bet it's probably a matter of adding a registry key, so if anyone knows
the solution, PLEASE HELP.

Thanks in advance.

You didn't state which address service you configured the Fax Service to
use.

What do you mean by "address service" ?

You didn't state which address service you configured the Fax Service to

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the reply.

I am not using a repository, such as .wab or outlook, to store addresses.
This is entered manually into the fax wizard pages.

From experience with Widows2000 Shared Fax, I know that the fax wizard
stores the details (name, fax number, etc.) of the last person you faxed to
in the registry. It then uses this as the default values when you run the
wizard again. However, although Windows XP fax also stores this information
in the registery, it does not use it as the default values when you run it
again. Instead, all the fields in the Fax Wizard pages are empty.

For completeness, the registry key is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fax\UserInfo

So my question is: How do I get the Windows XP Fax Wizard to "autofill it's
pages" with the last person faxed, which it stored in the above registry
key?

Thanks,

Eran

Win XP uses the WAB by default unless you have Outlook installed in which
case it uses the Outlook Address Book. I have never seen it maintain a
separate MRU list since autocompletion from those address services obviates
that need.

Hi Russ,

It doesn't store every person you fax to in the registry, only the last one.
I only want it to recall the last person I faxed to like it does in Windows
2000 Shared Fax. I'm not interested in using the "address book..."
button/feature of it.
Use regedit and take a look for yourself under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Fax\UserInfo

I'm hoping that this is not another Microsoft take-it-way feature. I am
hoping there is a registry key that would turn this feature back on.

Do you know anyone at Microsoft who can shed some light on this?
Or does anyone else have a solution?

Thanks,

Eran

I'm running Vista, but the Fax module is the updated version of Win XP Fax
and I see nothing there that stores the number of the last recipient. It's
all information pertaining to the current user. What key do you see that
stores that information?
If anyone in this group has seen Win XP Fax use an MRU list, I'm sure they
will chime in. It is certainly not a stretch to imagine that when they
migrated to using address services, the need for MRU would go away.

I found the key on a Win XP partition.
I have never seen Win XP use it, however. It remains a string of 0's.
