I turned on my computer and a window popped up "Found new hardware wizard"
SDDM12. Then it said I need to put in the installation disc, which I did.
Then it said the installation software not found... I cancelled and
re-started. Same thing. Now it all happens every time I turn on my
computer. I am quite lost. This has never come up before. What is it?..

It is asking you for the installation disk for the new hardware, not the
installation disk for the computer or the OS.

It appears that you recently added something to your computer, and now
Windows is asking for the drivers disk.
What hardware have you added lately?

Did you have a Secure Digital card in reader when you booted?

I have not installed anything recently -- that is the problem.

No (I don't even know what it is)

Have you recently added a Samsung CD or DVD Drive?

No...

I just received this:

"dont cancel it, even if it does not find it, the OS will put in under
non-identified items and popup will disappear"

I did it, and it worked exactly as it was suggested. I am still wondering:
I have not installed anything recently -- why this popup all of a sudden?..

Don't know what hardware Windows thinks it is finding but if it is a USB
device and it is plugged into a different USB port than before, that could
explain why XP wants to "reinstall" the drivers. The drivers aren't
duplicated on the system but registry info needed for the device to work at
the different address is updated/added. It's not unheard of for this
updating process to result in a "new hardware found" message.
