the Windows XP Home Version just has Word Pad and I need
the full version of Word that's in the Windows XP Office
version. Is there any way to download just the upgraded
Word or would I have to buy the whole package of Windows
XP Office?

An upgrade from WORDPAD is not possible.

WORD is available is several forms, incluing by itself, and in at least two
flavors (i.e., prices) of Office XP or 2003. By the way, in case you can
find a cheap copy, Office 97 will work under windows XP, but be sure to
install service pack 2 for Office 97. The serivce pack is a free download
from Microsoft.

However, if all you really want is a word processor that can read and write
DOC style files, try Open Office, which is free from

No, there's no such thing as the "Windows XP Office version."

Windows XP is an operating system. Microsoft Office is a suite of
application programs. They are entirely separate products. When
you buy one, you don't get the other.

Again, there is no "upgraded Word."

....and no "Windows XP Office."

If you want Microsoft Office, you can buy a copy of it.

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

of course the OP could download Open Office - it's freeware and happily
reads and writes Word document files. Find it through Google.
