Need urgent help - Networking problem

I got 2 computers, in 1 computer it contains win 98 and
other computer contains Win XP. I want to connect these 2
computers using the UTP cable. what are the procedures I
have to follow, please describe in details because i am
doing it for the first time.

If neither PC is connected to the 'net, then all you need to form
a LAN is a crossover Cat5 cable between the NICs of those PCs.
