Hello!

I noticed most of the HDD controller errors occur during shutdown on my
dad's old Toshiba Satellite P15-S470 notebook/laptop. A few of these
errors even came up during the boot up. The computer only has one HDD, a
D: DVD burner drive, and sometimes an external USB flash drive/stick.

Exported Windows XP's System Event Logs with the sections that look
suspicious can be found here: http://pastebin.ca/744908 ... I attached
SpeedFan v4.32's online HTML SMART results (overall good) in this
newsgroup post.

What do you think? Thank you in advance. :)

Notebook/laptops of older vintage will have problems with
hds/controllers,even
fragmented files will be more than newer ones.Try booting to xp cd,recovery,
select 1 For C: Press enter for password, type:CHKDSK C: /R When its thru,
type:EXIT Also, watch event viewer for hardware errors/warning,when all
fails,replace.....

I forgot to mention I ran chkdsk c: in the past (not from a bootable
CD). It was fine.

It is really irrelevant whether a hard drive is good or not. One should
always follow the standard precaution of making backups and images, for
that one time when the drive unexpectedly fails. Eliminate the need to
worry.
