Family Tree Maker is one of those programs that won't run without admin
privileges. I need to setup a shortcut on the desktops of our computers that
will run the program as an admin user, but I don't want the patron to see
anything or know that this is being done.

Can I set up a shortcut to run a program as an admin on local computers?

Thanks,
Wendell

You would need to use a replacement to runas the can encode the credentials
used. Cpau from Joeware.net can do that. Also have you tried modifying and
access control lists to see if you can get the application to work for a
regular users? Does it work for a power user? If so it is almost certain it
can be configured to run as a regular user. Did you contact the publisher
about help in doing such and voice your frustration that it requires
administrator access?

In addition to the wise Mr. Umbach's reply, you might consider applying the
compatws template - it's worked for me in the past with a variety of
applications. I also recommend bitching up a storm to the application
developer so they might actually fix their s__t to run properly in a
secure/multiuser operating system.
