Need to spread large cell over many cells

I've got a column with 174 cells. There is a
written memo in most of those cells. Some
have as many as 2000 characters and there
are carriage returns. I would like to spread the
memo out over as many columns as needed with the
maximum characters per cell to be 42 and I need
all of the carriage returns removed.

Is this possible?

my immediate need is to be able to view attribute data from
a CAD program (AutoCAD LT) which has limited capability.
The attribute window in AutoCAD limits me to 42 visible characters
per line. The information is brought into the CAD program via Access,
Pathfinder Office then AutoCAD. I can hyperlink files but that takes
more time thanI presently have. In any case, I'm just trying to solve a
problem in a quick and dirty way.

If you have a decent text editor, i.e., something other than NotePad, could you
load your CAD attributes into that?
 
It's a bit of a lengthy process but the excel database
has longitude and latitude (x,y) points plus a feature attribute
field that lets me populate a drawing with blocks (for each lat/lon
position) that contain the attributes. In the CAD program one
just double-clicks on the block and the attributes pop-up.
There limited ways to do this in our CAD program - I'm just trying to
work something into our current setup as I don't have the time to
work a new solution. FYI, there are several hundred records in the
excel db.
