There is within XP-Pro a program that checks out the integrity of XP itself.
I think it is called checkdisk or something. Need to run it on a computer
but don't get the exact name so XP reports it cannot find it.
Can someone help me out here fairly quickly.
Please reply to the Cc above as she needs it.

Gosh I wish there was a listing somewhere of all those secret programs
ipconfig.exe etc, and the command syntax.

Chkdsk will check the file system and the hard drive (to a point). The
System File Checker will check for altered/damaged system files. There
are no sekrit programs. You just have to be more descriptive about the
problem and what you are trying to do.

How to use Chkdsk (from Microsoft):

To use the System File Checker, do:
Start>Run>sfc /scannow [enter]
You may need your XP cd, so have it handy.

XP command line reference, A to Z (from Microsoft):

Windows XP has a decent Help and Support Center. Go to Start->Help and
Support and do a search for tools.

What you have described is the System File Checker. To run it: Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt/type "sfc /scannow" [minus the quotation
marks AND be sure a space precedes the right slash] and press the "Enter"
key.

Look in Help and Support, all kinds of secret information hidden there.
Paste this in the Search box... Command-line reference A-Z and click the
arrow.

or...

Start | Run | Copy and paste the following line:

hh ntcmds.chm

Click OK.

or...

Open a command prompt, type HELP and hit Enter

To check the integrity of the undrlying file system, Start>Run "chkdsk /?"
(no quotes, include the space) to get a list of options for running chkdsk.
/R is the common one.

To check the integrity of Windows XP system files, Start>Run "sfc /scannow"

There are no secrets here that any book on XP I know about does not reveal.

That's new to me! Secreting information in Help and Support. What will
Microsoft get up to next <g>?

Yesterday another knowledgeable poster referred to hidden blue files! I
guess he has night vision glasses or something similar <ebg>.

Hi
I learned something new to today. Thanks. Never took the time to read
all that is in the help and support. When I go looking for help I never
seem to be able to use the right word or phrase to find the help I need.

Hi Linda

Did you post a HijackThis log to the AumHa forum. I have looked several
times but couldn't spot it. If you did what Username have you taken on
there?
