My motherboard or cpu gave up the ghost the other night.
I'm going to replace it with a simular make and model but
I need to know what I should do when I boot it up.

Background. my motherboard was a MSI kt7 pro2a and I'm
was running a 200fsb 1.3 gig athlon. I've secured a kt7
turbo board and I should be able to get a simular
processor. all the other hardware and memory will be the
same items going back into the system. Same slots etc.
Both boards take the same VIA chipset drivers.

So my main question is... will I have to reinstall XP or
given the simularities in drivers etc should i just boot
it up and see what happens. I'm not to concerned about
reactivation I just dont want to loose any data in the
aftermath. Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Greetings --

Unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the old one
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
