Need to repair shortcuts

I just removed Firefox with Add/Remove from control panel and now my I.E.
shortcuts do not respond. I get a menu that allows me to select the
application I wish to open with but when I click the box to allow this to
open as requested from now on this does not work. I keep getting the same
menu with the box available to OPEN AS each time. How do I repair this
problem. I remember using Tweekui on an old Win98 system that allowed
'repair' icons but I don't have Tweekui on this XP system. I don't see I.E.
in Add/Remove as I was thinking I could repair from there but not.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try using "Set Program Access and Defaults," accessible from the Start
menu or from Add/Remove Programs, to set IE as your default browser.

Thanks. That worked fine although I have no idea what else happened. I
clicked a box indicating 'Windows' changing from 'Custom'. I have never used
this application before so I have no idea how the 'Custom' configuration was
selected. So far so good.

Thanks Mr. Bear. I had just installed Tweakui Pro which I thought was the
correct version you linked me to. I was considering a purchase after
evaluation period but I am not sure if this is a good idea. In the
beginning all I needed was the repair function that did work fine so the
rest may be overkill.

TweakUI (see my link) is freeware.

John,

Click Start/Run and type:

REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW.DLL

If that does not help, type this command in Start/Run (for XP SP1 and above)

shmgrate.exe OCInstallReinstallIE

I just realized that I was working with Tweak XP Pro and not Tweakui. I
thought it looked a bit different. I just tried installing Tweakui but for
some reason it just does not show up in the Control Panel. It does appear in
Add/Remove but with no file size showing but so do other apps. I removed it
and tried a reinstall but still no show in CP. Maybe I must completely
remove this Tweak XP Pro application but I was going to try it for awhile. I
see so many Tweak applications that it is hard to tell if any are worth the
trouble to get involved or not let alone pay for something that can be done
free with the proper knowledge.

Thank you for this help.
Regards

Thanks for the reply Ramesh. I made IE my default browser as Gary suggested
and everything is fine now. Should I also use your method?

Thanks again.

YW John. Any one is enough. Mine is the command-line version of Set Program Access and Defaults method.
