I have just upgraded to XP from 98. Now I need to remap
my network drives every time I log on. Also, there is no
request for a log-on password so it seems that something
that recalls that I am connected to a network and
requires a password is missing. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Whoah, slow down there! You've got two, very distinct
problems here.
Open USER ACCOUNTS in the control panel.
Hit 'change the way users long on or off'
The setting 'use welcome screen' when turned off, will
give you the classic windows login screen, provided you
HAVE A PASSWORD for that account.
Ok, now the login should be good.
If it's not, there is a 20th century alternative. Enter
your BIOS settings (Keep pressing DELETE as you scan
memory during POST) and there MAY BE an option to set an
administrative password from there, provided you have a
nice motherboard. The added bonus: This should protect
ALL operating systems on the computer, if your running
multiple operating systems, even multiple windows
versions.
Second problem's answer: Go to my computer. on the tools
menu, hit MAP NETWORK DRIVE. Once you've inputted the
data, check the box saying 'RECONNECT AT LOGON'
Voila!
Hope that helped.
