Motherboard crashed. Hard drive doesn't work with plugging
it into new hard drive. How can I make it work? This was
new PC from HP, couldn't get replacment MB. New case, and
MB, same chip. BIOS reads hd, but windows xp keeps
rebooting. can't even boot in safe mode. Help!

Have you loaded the software for BIOS.It needs to run
on floppy disk,also,open BIOS,exit page,select,"load
set-up defaults",then save changes and exit BIOS.
If the default set-up wasnt entered that may end youre
trouble.

Yes, tried that too. PC says found boot record on HD, but
it just sits there. I would really rather not reload
windows xp.

You have a hardware problem and you need to resolve that first. Have you
called HP, what about a shop, what exactly are you trying to do?

HP is no use. I replaced motherboard AND case, because
they have already replaced it 3 times in a year. I guess
what I need now is the media to reload XP. I have the
cert. of auth. & license number on side of old case, at
this point I have loaded Windows 98, and I have it working
properly, but really want to put XP back on (I think).
The hard drive was useless, I couldn't access anything
because I replaced the MB. I FDisked and reloaded. I
have worked with NT and 2000 for 5 years, and now I know
why I will never again buy XP. Can you just tell me how to
get the media?
Thanks,
Brenda Oldroyd

Because it's an OEM, you need to get the replacement media from HP.
